Panama’s 3rd largest city, Santiago, Veraguas can be reached in a little over 1 hour driving time on a paved road. Several shopping centers, large supermarkets such as El Rey, PriceSmart, Super99, Machetazo, and hardware store chains like Do It Center/Ace Hardware,  Spiegel/TrueValue Hardware, & Cochez can be found here. There are 2 hospitals in Santiago. A  large shopping mall is located by the airport.

Mariato, a 6 mile/10km drive to the north has several basic grocery & hardware stores, a few restaurants, including a popular authentic Italian Pizza place, Banco Nacional de Panamá with 2 ATMs [cash machines], and a government run medical center.
